Why Are These Drying Packs Perfect for Drying Mushrooms?

1. Non-Toxic (Food Grade): Your drying packs must be food grade and completely non-toxic. Avoid desiccant packs that contain cobalt chloride, also known as indicator beads, which change color but are unsafe for food use. This is the most important factor when drying safely.

2. Reusable: Many desiccant packs are made for one-time use only, which is not practical for drying mushrooms. Choose packs that can be reused, since you'll likely dry mushrooms more than once.

3. High Temperature Resistant: To reuse the packs, they need to be reactivated in the oven at around 90°C (194°F). Some desiccants can't handle high temperatures and may melt, so make sure yours are heat resistant.

4. Non-Woven Fabric: A non-woven fabric casing is important because it lets moisture pass through more quickly than paper or composite materials. Faster drying reduces the risk of mold and helps preserve the potency of your mushrooms.

These packs were designed especially for magic mushrooms. They enable very gentle drying without heat to preserve as much potency as possible.

They also work very well for gourmet and culinary mushrooms.

2. How Often Can I Use Them?

Practically indefinitely. The packs can be reactivated multiple times. The material has no expiry date.

Here is how you can reactivate them: Put them in the oven for 90 minutes at around 90°C (194 °F) or at 550 W for 5 minutes and repeat this process for 3 times. After that let them cool down for 5 minutes until using them again.

3. Which Amounts Are Suitable?

They work great with managable effort up to 300g fresh. With proper pre drying you usually only need to reactive your packs once.

4. What If I Get a Dehydrator Later On?

If you decide to replace your drying packs with a dehydrator, you can still use the drying packs to preserve your mushrooms for long-term storage.
