Sterilized Rye Grain Bag | Mushroom Spawn Bag
Start your mushroom cultivation journey with our Sterilized Rye Grain Bag. Perfectly prepared for grain spawn production. No pressure cooker, no messy grain preparation, and no lab equipment required. Just inoculate and watch the mycelium grow.
What Is a Sterilized Grain Bag?
A sterilized grain bag contains perfectly hydrated and sterilized rye grain. It acts as the ideal nutritious base to grow mushroom mycelium. Simply inject your spore syringe or liquid culture through the self-healing injection port. Once fully colonized, this "grain spawn" is ready to be mixed with a bulk substrate to fruit your mushrooms.

Compatible Mushroom Strains
Rye is a highly versatile grain suitable for almost all mushroom strains. It is the industry standard for mushroom cultivation because it provides excellent moisture retention and a robust nutrient profile, leading to strong, healthy mycelium growth for both gourmet and medicinal varieties.

More About the Grow Bags We Use
The bags we use are industry standard, resistant, with an injection port and proper filter patch, so we know that the limiting factor won't be the grow bag.
- ✓ 0.08mm thick, robust and puncture-resistant, won't tear during handling or shipping
- ✓ 0.2 µm filter patch, allows air exchange for the mycelium to breathe, without letting contamination enter
- ✓ Silicone rubber injection port, heat resistant with self-healing ability for contamination-free inoculation
- ✓ 100% polypropylene material, heat and pressure resistant, won't melt or break during sterilization
- ✓ Industrial impulse-sealed welds, double-sided sealing prevents ripping and ensures an even, secure seal
More About the Rye Grain We Use
We make sure to not only choose the perfect grain for our spawn bags, but also want to ensure we hydrate and sterilise it correctly for explosive mycelium growth.
- ✓ Rye grain, best for high yields and great moisture retention
- ✓ Natural, food-grade grain, chemical-free with a low natural endospore load
- ✓ Properly hydrated for 24 hours, ensuring optimal moisture levels without bursting
- ✓ Sterilized for 3 hours at 15 PSI, completely eliminating mold spores and bacteria
- ✓ Added gypsum, providing essential minerals and preventing grain clumping for better shaking

Frequently Asked Questions
How to use a grain spawn bag for mushrooms?
How to use a grain spawn bag for mushrooms?
You inject the bag through the self healing port using a sterile needle. First, wipe the injection port thoroughly with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Then, insert your sterile needle and dispense between 3 to 6 cc of liquid culture or spore solution evenly throughout the grain bag.
How long does colonization take?
How long does colonization take?
Colonization typically takes between three to six weeks to complete fully. The exact timeframe always depends heavily on the size of your grain bag, the specific mushroom strain you are growing, and the ambient room temperature where the bag is stored during the incubation phase.
Rye vs Milo for mushroom grain bags?
Rye vs Milo for mushroom grain bags?
Rye grain provides the highest overall yield, while milo grain offers the fastest colonization speed. Rye is highly nutrient dense and holds water perfectly for large flushes. Milo consists of much smaller grains, which creates significantly more inoculation points for rapid growth.
What should I use to inoculate a grain bag?
What should I use to inoculate a grain bag?
We strongly recommend using liquid culture for the quickest growth and lowest risk of contamination. Spore syringes also work fine, but the contamination risk is much higher. Spores also grow much slower because they have to germinate inside the bag first, which takes weeks.
How long can I store a sterilized grain bag?
How long can I store a sterilized grain bag?
You can store unopened grain bags safely for several months in a cool and dark place. However, we highly recommend using your sterilized grain bags within four weeks of receiving them to guarantee the absolute best results and optimal moisture levels for your mushroom mycelium.

Free Replacement Policy
Our replacement policy covers bags that arrive contaminated or that were damaged during shipping. If either of these happens, we'll send a new bag at no extra cost. To be eligible, please report the issue within 7 days of delivery. You can reach us via email, our contact form, or Discord, whichever is easiest for you.
The policy doesn't cover bags after inoculation, for example with spores or liquid culture. We can only guarantee sterility up to the point of inoculation. Once you introduce your own genetics or open the bag, we have no control over the cleanliness of your workspace or the quality of the genetics used, so any contamination from that point on falls outside what we can be responsible for.
